Most of us, however, will hit a snag when we go to look up the identity of those celebrity pieces we are coveting. Because while those Gold Palm Feather Earrings spotted on Sienna Miller and Leighton Meester are truly to-die-for, the nearly $10000 price tag makes them out of the price range for most of us.

The problem with finding a great substitute for the look, is that the people creating them are either too big of an entity to get the look close enough or don't have enough experience to know that it is better to get the feel of the look rather then stress about getting the exact details. The reason? I think it's because most of these shops/companies/people are not creating these pieces for themselves. I know almost immediately when I buy something if I am happy with it, but how can I expect the same attention paid by those whose primary focus is the bottom line.
So in response to this gap in the market I attempted my first do-it-yourself project, I figured that way I could obtain the pieces I was dying to own and not break the bank.
And here's where "Beyond Replicas" comes in. I want anyone with the desire to make their dream piece to be able to and I think I can help by sharing what I've learned from reading, experimenting, and my own fair share of screwing up (you know those pieces that look like the art project you brought home to mom in the first grade. My mom still claims she doesn't know how she could have misplaced the mug I gave her for mother's day. For the record, it was actually a napkin holder.)
I would also love to help you with the pieces you want to make and hear about your do-it-yourself projects. From experience I know that this tends to be the best way to find out about those eye-catching pieces that I may have missed somewhere in my 8 magazine subscriptions (it tends to happen). So please comment on the posts or send any messages about things you want to see posted, I'd love to hear from you!!
